UI Design

Explore a range of user interface designs that I have created over the years. This is just a small choice selection of the work I’ve done to give you an idea of my range. I’ve worked on everything from marketing materials and simple websites to technical engineering tools.

Digital Academy milestones

Description
I was tasked to create update an outdated layout for the Haskoning digital academy where users would struggle to find what they were looking for. The project included interviewing users from across the company to find out what they found most important and what kind of learning and learning approaches they were interested in.

Then we collated the feedback to come up with a list of features that we wanted to include in the mockups and did several iterations via user and stakeholder feedback. We also explored ideas of “gamification”, of how we could make the learning more attractive and exciting by adding achievements and badges to encourage returns and further completion.

The mockup was very well received and has since been implemented. It is also planned to roll out the design across all other academies as well to ensure consistent look and feel going forward.

Description

DMA Portal & ConstruQT, two engineering applications by Haskoning, respectively for the Water & Maritime business line and the Mobility & Infrastructure business line. Both projects included stakeholder engagement & management, brainstorming & feedback sessions and workshops with users and multiple design iterations.

The challenges lie in making complex features and functionality appear easy and straightforward, helping the user to focus their attention on the tasks and information that is the most important. Sensitive content has been blurred out.

Description
Designs for SPIN (a spatial inequality tool) that helps engineers evaluate social and environmental pain points in specific country regions that need to be considered when working in certain areas on certain projects, such as road and bridge quality, ease of access to emergency services, risks of flooding and earthquakes, etc. The focus was specifically on vulnerable areas and risks that might otherwise be overlooked.

The project included brainstorming and feedback sessions and 1-1 interviews with potential users, feedback gathering and evaluation together with the whole team, feature prioritisation, prototype building and testing and multiple rounds of iterations.

Description
Designs for Aquasuite, a predictive B2B rainfall and water-level measuring application used by clients in the Netherlands and UK. Some of our clients would use Aquasuite in their operational rooms and with our Alarms & Events features be notified when a location requires attention. Speedy reaction to potential issues would save our clients money and save potential loss or reduced quality of drinking water for inhabitants.

I worked on Aquasuite with a team of agile developers for 3 years and we worked in sprints. Working on the project included stakeholder management, regular client feedback sessions and interviews, the development of new features and continuous iterations of prototypes and application updates. For this project I also developed a persona deck for our users and did multiple role-based user journeys (created together with clients) to explore how the application and new features would fit into the daily work of our users.

The application featured a light mode and a dark mode for accessibility and user preference. We also introduced features such as task management and data quality monitoring. Sensitive content has been blurred out.

Description
Designs for the Climate Intelligence tool. It was a B2B application to help support insurers when investigating property values and any potential climate risks associated with the area. The tool would highlight areas of flooding with predictive and past models, but was also capable of handling solar and wind data, rain forecasts and much more.

The project included stakeholder management and client interviews to understand which features were the most important and prioritising those accordingly with updated designs. A set of personas was also developed for the project.

Description
A mockup of the new landing page for The Prince’s Trust Online, the learning portal access page for young people who are completing courses with the Trust or are looking for information on how to prepare for interviews or help start their own businesses. I focused on cleanliness and a colourful style to attract a young audience, keeping the copy short, clear and to the point.

Last image shows some mobile-first wireframing that I did for the learning portal itself.

Description
Two infographics created for my two most recent employers. One was for external use to be seen by young people who were looking for help and were considering asking for a mentor and the other was for an internal audience to inform colleagues of progress made in the Climate Resilience group.
